Q. What do you predict for VS.NET programmers in 2003?

Asked by reader. Answered by the Wonk on December 6, 2002

A.

I predict much more use of XML and web services, including a major shift needed in the way that OO programmers think to really gain the benefits of the increasingly full-featured and complete XML platform that’s growing up around them.

I predict a mass migration to .NET as the message gets out that .NET is not just a way to build web services, but that it’s a better way to do 80% of all Windows programming.

I predict continued increase in web services usage between close partner companies trying to do business better between themselves leading to a real uptake in commercial web services in 2004.

I predict that someone will stumble onto a way to expose pornography via web services, finally validating the medium once and for all. : )
